Jump Start on the new year

Students and parents,

Are you ready to get started?  Here is some information that is being sent home in the syllabus on the first day of school.  I am posting it here so you can get a head start.

The band is using a new office assistant called Charms Office Assistant!  Each student will be given a sign up code on the first day of school.  Parents will need to register on the website for free.  Here, parents can see their students band account, receive important email reminders, volunteer for band events, and see an updated calendar.  More information coming soon.

Each student should register for the band edmodo online class (www.edmodo.com).  This is where the band assigns homework, keeps an updated library of recordings, and other important band items.  Most classes at Smokey Road use edmodo.  To sign up, click on the group links below.

Finally, the following are extra opportunities that students can sign up for at the beginning of school.  The cost associated covers the cost of music and a T-shirt.  These are optional fun after school things that are open to students.

Pep Band-cost is $10.00  Any 7-8th grade student can sign up!  Get into all the home football games for free!  Support the Wildcat Football team.  Play at select pep rallies!  We play fun music at athletic events.  Minimum after school commitment.

Percussion Club-cost is $15  This is open to all 7-8th grade percussionist.  The purpose of this group is simply to learn some fun percussion only music in a relaxed environment.  The group may perform at the Christmas Concert.  This group will practice after school on Newnan High School home football game Fridays (we will be done in time for the game!).

All State Club-cost is $45  This is open to all advanced 7-8th grade students.  The cost of all state club includes the cost of the round 1 all state audition, T-shirt, membership into Sightreadingfactory.com website, and periodic after school rehearsals and lessons to get the student ready for the all state audition in December. A schedule for this club will be sent home during the first full week of school.

Brass Choir-cost is $10  (no T-shirt), this is open to brass players in 7-8th grade.  If a large number of students request to participate, an audition may be necessary.  The cost will cover the purchase of new music.  This group will practice in the band room between 8:00am-8:20am on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting in September.  The group will focus on brass small ensemble music and will perform at the Christmas concert, the Nov. 18th World Premiere concert, and a possible performance if invited at the Governors Mansion.  This group will also make a CD recording at the end of the year to use to submit a GMEA lobby performance in 2016.
