This letter is being sent home on December 2nd with students who are performing at our annual fall concert on December 10th.
Dear Parents,
I hope that your Thanksgiving break
was restful and enjoyable. Each student
in the band is completing a final project that requires them to demonstrate
their knowledge of the Georgia Performance Standards through performance in a
concert or a written 5 page paper (see syllabus for more questions). Your student has chosen to perform in the
concert.
It is hard to believe that December is
already here and our annual Fall Concert is just around the corner. Our fall concert will be on Tuesday December
10th, at Smokey Road Middle School in the cafeteria. Each group will perform at various times
starting at 6:30pm. The performances
will last approximately 20 to 30 minutes each.
Students and parents are invited to stay and watch all of the groups
perform, but are not required to stay beyond their individual group’s
performance due to limited seating space. Students should arrive 30 minutes
prior to their performance time to warm up and receive last minute directions. 3rd Period students will
immediately be seated for warm up in the cafeteria (6:00pm). All other groups will report to the band room
for warm up. Please be aware that a
group may be performing as you arrive, so please be courteous as you
arrive.

Please be aware that every student is
required to complete either the written or the performance final. If a student is not present at the concert, I
will still allow them to complete the written final to make certain that they
still have an opportunity to receive full credit for the final project.
This is going to be an excellent
concert. Our students have worked very
hard to get everything ready for the concert.
I know that you are going to be thrilled with their hard work. I look forward to seeing each of you at our
concert. Remember that admission is
free! Please feel free to invite your
family and friends to come and see our students perform.
I want to wish you a Merry Christmas
and a Happy Holiday Season. I am truly grateful
to have had the opportunity to get know each of you. I am looking forward to seeing you and your
family at a Smokey Road Band event soon.
Sincerely,
Dr. Joshua Boyd
Director of Bands
