Percussion Ensemble Auditions

This information was sent home today with students who raised their hand to demonstrate interest in auditioning for the SRMS Percussion Ensemble.  This is an after school extra curricular activity.  This is not required for participation in band.  Percussion Ensemble is one of the many programs that we offer to reach and motivate the varied interests of students.  To learn more information, please attend this Thursday's BandAids meeting at 6:00pm in the band room.

Dear Parents,

It is now time to audition for the 2014 edition of the Smokey Road Middle School Percussion Ensemble.  Our percussion ensemble is the only middle school member of SAPA.  This means that our success has come in defeating both high school and independent college aged groups.  As a result, our unit has a reputation for excellence throughout the southeast.  This has happened because of highly dedicated students and parents who work countless hours to prepare for competition and contests. 

Want to know more about Percussion Ensemble and what is involved?  We will discuss this at the next BandAids meeting (parent meeting) this Thursday night at 6:00pm.  This is a great time to visit, learn more about what is involved, and ask questions.

Audition dates:  October 21, 24, and 25 from 3:30-5:00pm

Audition requirements:

1.  Passing all SRMS classes

2.  An A average in band

3.  Perform exercises given to student on the first day of auditions  These will be performed for a judge on the final day.  This will include memorization of some small exercises.

4.  Signed Contract stating that both the parent and student understand that if selected, attendance at all rehearsals and performances is mandatory.  Parent also agrees to the payment schedule.

Cost to audition: NO COST TO AUDITION!

There is a cost if selected.  Please see the handout which was sent home today.

These fees cover the cost of our SAPA member fee and contest entry fees, non director staff, shirts, music arranging and licensing, replacements mallets and other equipment, and transportation to local shows.

Additional cost:  Parents will be responsible to transport students to and from Spartanburg SC show if we attend.  Parents will be responsible for transportation to and from Championships in Chattanooga, TN on March 29^th should we earn a spot in SAPA Championships.
