District Honor Band

Congratulations to Ciara Morse, Hannah Johnson, Stephanie Cannon, Grace Holewinski, Lexus Butler, and Katelyn Cannon.  These students auditioned for the honor of being called the best middle school musicians in our District (includes Coweta, Fayette, Clayton, and Henry County).  They will travel to Flat Rock Middle School to play with out District All-Star Band. 




This is the handout being sent home with the students who were selected through audition for the District VI Honor Band 



District VI Honor Band—2013



As one of the finest music students in the district, this is truly an honor and a privilege for him/her to be asked to represent the school at this prestigious event. Honor Band is an event where the best students from the district come together for a weekend of fun- filled participation in the finest ensembles this district can put together.

There are (2) two performing ensembles at the Middle School Level. Your student successfully completed the audition process and has been placed in one of these outstanding bands.

The site for the Honor Band Rehearsals is Flat Rock Middle School in Fayette County.

Honor Band will take place Friday and Saturday, February 8th-9th, 2013 at Flat Rock Middle School. The students will rehearse on Friday 4:30 pm until 9:15 pm with dinner at 6:00 pm and on Saturday from 9:00 am until 3:30 pm with lunch at 12. There is a 4:30 pm concert across the street from Flat Rock Middle at Sandy Creek High School’s Patriot Hall Saturday.

Detailed Event Schedule

Friday, February 8th:

3:45 – 4:15 pm             Arrival—Students enter through the front left doors of FRMS—Report to rehearsal site. 
4:30 – 6:00 pm             Rehearsal (Brown Band/Band Room; Millsap Band/Orchestra Room)
6:00 – 7:00 pm             Dinner Break—Flat Rock Band Boosters provides pre order forms
7:00 – 9:15 pm             Rehearsal

Saturday, February 9th:

8:50 am                         Students are in their seats.
9:00 – 12:00 pm           Rehearsal
12:00 –1:00 pm            Lunch Break—Flat Rock Band Boosters provides pre order forms
1:00 – 3:30 pm             Rehearsal
3:30 – 4:00 pm             Change into uniforms (rooms provided)
4:00 pm                        Parents transport students to Sandy Creek High School, Patriot Hall across the street
4:30 pm                        Middle School Concert begins

Concert Attire

Students should wear their formal band uniform or black pants/skirt, white shirt, and dress shoes to the concert.

Concert Recordings

Recordings of both bands will be available for ordering on the evening of the concert.

Stands and Pencils

Please have your students bring a wire music stand and a pencil to all rehearsals. Please make sure that all personal belongings are tagged or taped with the student’s name and school displayed. GMEA, Sandy Creek High School, and Flat Rock Middle School along with their legal representatives will not be held responsible for lost or damaged items.

Please be sure that you have no other conflicts for these two days. Students who participate in District Honor Band must be at every rehearsal. If you know you have a conflict, please let your Director of Bands know as soon as possible so an alternate can be assigned to your slot.

Please be aware that there are other obligations:

·         Students must be picked up on Friday evening at 9:15 pm at Flat Rock Middle School.
·         Students will also need a ride on Saturday morning to Flat Rock Middle School by 8:50 am (rehearsal starts at 9:00) and will need a parent or other adult to pick them up from Flat Rock Middle School at 4:00 in order to transport them to Sandy Creek High School across the street from Flat Rock for the afternoon concert.  Parents should plan to attend the 4:30 pm concert on Saturday and provide transportation home from the concert.
·         There is a $10.00 fee due to GMEA in order for a student to participate in the event.  In addition, students may need money for dinner on Friday and lunch on Saturday if you do not choose to pre order food for your child.
·         Dinner and Lunch are being provided on site, as there are not many restaurants close to the school.  The Flat Rock Band is also using this as a small fundraiser, so any additional donations to the FRBB are appreciated.  Pre order forms are found in this packet. Please make your food choice and return the food order forms and the designated amount for your order. Make the food order check out to the Flat Rock Band Boosters or FRBB.

Time is of the essence in confirming participation for this event. If you child is able to participate, please return the form below with the $10.00 participation fee and the additional food order form with food payment as soon as possible. Please send a $10 Check to SRMS Bands for the participation fee and any additional food money should be sent by check made out to the Flat Rock Band Boosters or FRBB.
